Geraniums flower

The geranium is one of the most dependable perennials that you will find in any garden, this is a big part of what makes them so popular. They produce beautiful flowers which can survive with virtually no care once they have been successfully established. They are so reliable that they are frequently seen around abandoned homes long after the other flowers have died.

The key to success with planting geraniums, like most flowers is location. They need to be planted in a spot where they can get adequate sun, they can survive in partially shaded areas but for best results they should be in an area that gets at least six hours of sun a day. You will want to wait until there is no danger of frost before you start planting your geraniums. You will also want to try to have about eight inches of space between the plants so that the air can flow freely.

Geraniums like soil that is well drained and has lots of nutrients, adding compost is a good way to make sure that the soil has plenty of nutrients. When planting them it is a good idea to have a fairly large hole, this will help them to grow. Geraniums don’t need a lot of water so generally watering once a week is sufficient. Regular pruning is a good way to increase the number of blooms. One advantage of a geranium is that you can grow more from cuttings from the plants that you already have, a great way to get cheap flowers for your yard.
