Lavender flower


Lavender is one of those flowers that is more famous for its fragrance than it is for it’s appearance. The ancient Romans use to bath in lavender using is as a soap. Even today lavender is widely used for a variety of purposes like lotions and aromatherapy. Lavender is most commonly used as a herb and it is claimed that there are all sorts of benefits to consuming it.

Lavender is a perennial that grows naturally in temperate regions and can be grown in many other regions provided that it is planted in an area the gets lots of sun. The plants should be spaced far apart and if possible next to a wall that will help to protect them from the wind. The plants don’t really like too much water but they do need to be watered on a regular basis. When you see a new growth at the base of the plant you need to prune, cutting them back by as much as a third.

Lavender oil is widely used in aromatherapy where it is said that it can soothe the nerves. It is also used in baths and massage oils for the same purpose. Lavender is commonly used to make tea that is used as a herbal remedy for headaches, insomnia, depression and a whole host of other things. Lavender can even be made into a sugar that is used to season all kinds of baked goods. It should be noted that lavender is not recommended for pregnant women.
