Loft Ladder – Get Into the Attic

Unless you regularly move from house to house, you are only ever going to have to buy one loft ladder, perhaps, if you are intending to do an attic conversion you might purchase another. Either way, you will want to be sure the one you choose is the most suitable for your home. There are many different types of loft ladders available, but they generally come down to a choice of two types: wooden loft ladders and aluminum loft ladders.

If price is your main concern then you will probably want to buy an aluminum loft ladder. You will be able to find aluminum loft ladders that come as either sliding ladders or concertina ladders. The main reason that you might want to use a concertina ladder is if space is tight or the opening is in an awkward position. The ladder will allow for an almost vertical ascent after it has been lowered from its folded position.

Sliding ladders are available in either two or three sections and are capable of providing you with a larger ladder that slopes at a more forgiving angle. The more elaborate of the sliding loft ladders feel more like a set of stairs than a ladder complete with a handrail for ease of use. For most people’s taste a wooden loft ladder will feel as though it is a more luxurious option. For one thing the lowering of a wooden ladder will be a quieter affair than that of an aluminum one.

Although it is possible to install a loft ladder yourself, the more usual option is to call in a professional to do the job. There are some safety issues involved with ceiling and roof installations and most people prefer the peace of mind in knowing that the job has been done properly by an expert.

There is no doubt that the installation of a loft ladder will give you far greater access to your attic and consequently, will result in the possibility of more storage options in the house.
